The Process

The building process for your project will be unique, however commonly the  following stages apply:
  • Design
    • Query, concept outline, choice of materials
    • Initial Estimate of Cost
    • Drawing of plans
  • Approval
    • Application for planning permission
    • Structural calculations (where necessary)
  • Construction
    • Final Quote
    • Building
    • Extras

APPROVAL

An application to the local council for planning permission is required for buildings over 30mand over 4m high, although each local council has its own planning committees and their own process.

Oak Ridge Design have successfully worked with the planning authorities in Hampshire, Surrey and Sussex and we can guide you through the planning process.

For some large-scale projects structural calculations are essential. If this is necessary we will recommend it at the Design stage

Thoughout the process, the focus is on designing and constructing a tailor made, high quality, bespoke building that fits your space and requirements.

No two of our projects are the same; please browse our gallery for examples of past work, and contact us today to see how we can create something unique for you.

DESIGN

At Oak Ridge Design, every project is bespoke. With your design ideas, we produce a workable building plan by hand. We can advise on suitable materials, construction methods and styles to fit the environment for your project. For example, we have successfully completed projects from traditional stables to modern timber framed home offices.

We generally recommend green oak with soft wood studwork, roof rafters and oak or softwood wide traditional cladding, however may recommend different materials depending on circumstances.

Whether you have full architectural plans or just an idea, we can work with you to create the ideal barn, stable, orangery, pool house, timber extension or garage with or without above accommodation.

CONSTRUCTION

Our groundwork contractor prepares the ground and lays a concrete base along with three course of bricks, providing a solid foundation for your building.

We then construct the oak frame using traditional mortice and tenoned with draw pegged joints, soft wood stud in-fills, soft wood rafters and bracing completed with wide oak or soft wood feather edged boarding.

All construction is performed onsite ensuring a perfect fit for the building's site. You will see the whole construction process being performed from foundation to finishing touches.

If your building requires any additional amenities, we can recommend tradesmen with whom we have worked in the past although we are more than happy to work with your own preferred suppliers if you would prefer.
